About Valarie Ayers:

  • Married 26 years to Jack Ayers, Jr. President of Ayers & Ayers, Inc. in Powhatan
  • Two sons, Brandon, 21 a Senior Chemistry Major at James Madison University and Travis, 20, a Junior Biology Major at Christopher Newport University
  • Both sons attended Powhatan County Public Schools K-12 and graduated with advanced diplomas
  • Lived in Powhatan for almost 20 years and have been blessed to raise my family in this Community
  • Attended Mary Washington College and VCU, studying Early Childhood Education
  • Worked for Powhatan County & Goochland County Public Schools
  • Volunteered thousands of hours in our school system, working with our children, teachers, administrators, and other dedicated parents
  • Served on the Maggie Walker Governors school board and the Math and Science Center Board for 12 years
  • Received numerous awards from the Virginia School Board Association

Citizenship:

  • Volunteered for Cancer Family Network Camp two weeks per year for 8 years
  • Friends for life blood donor with Virginia Blood Services
  • Powhatan Historical Society

ENDORSED BY THE POWHATAN COUNTY EDUCATION ASSOCIATION

I WILL CONTINUE TO:
  • Adopt budgets that increase  teachers salaries and benefits, so they remain competitive, white continuing to maintain low administrative expenses (currently less than
    4% of the budget)
  • Work closely with the Board of Supervisors and County Administration to plan for and fund the Educational needs in our County
  • Serve and be available to my constituents:  I have attended ALL school board meetings in 12 years, with the exception of two, due to family obligations

UNDER MY LEADERSHIP OUR SCHOOLS ARE:

  • Fully accredited
  • Producing results that exceed all state and federal testing standards
  • Adding innovative programs to help our students succeed
  • Providing an excellent education for our children for $1,000.00 less per student than the state average

MY GOALS:

  • To further develop community involvement in our schools
  • To expand our alternative education program for at risk students
