 Every vehicle in the county that has a state license plate issued by DMV is required to purchase a county sticker from the county where the vehicle is garaged. Vehicle license or (county stickers) can be purchased in the Treasurer's Office or by mail. Every year at the end of February an application is mailed to every person who's personal property taxes have been paid and have their garage jurisdiction as Powhatan County on their registration card. These applications are printed from information obtained from DMV. If you do not receive an application before the end of March, you must contact the office to see if taxes are owed, or what procedure you need to do in order to purchase the stickers for your car.

You should always make sure that all of your information is correct at DMV, so problems with jurisdiction will not occur.

New county stickers always go on sale March 1st of each year and are due on the car by April 15th of that year.

Listed below are the fees according to the type of vehicle you have:

a. Cars, Trucks, Vans, SUV and Motor Carriers 25.00
b. Motorcycles 8.00
c. Trailers with a weight of 1500 pounds or less 6.50
d. Trailers with a weight of 1501 pounds or more 8.00
e. Farm Use vehicle with Farm Use Tags from DMV 17.00
f. National Guard with National Guard Tags 12.50
g. Disabled Veterans with a disabled veterans tag 0.00

If you would like to purchase a county sticker by mail, please mail a copy of your registration card and the correct fee listed above and we will mail back the sticker to you promptly.  Thank you.
