The Powhatan County Department of Social Services offers benefit and service programs to qualified county residents.  Social Services aids families in short-term and long-term financial distress through its benefits programs.

Office Hours are:

• 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday thru Friday

• Closed on State Holidays

• Temporary Assistance to Needy Families

• Food Stamps

• Medicaid

• General Relief

• Energy Assistance

• Energy Share

• Auxiliary Grants

• State/Local Hospitalization

• Section 8 Rental Assistance

We also include Service programs such as:

• Adoption

• Adult services

• Adult Protective Services

• Child Protective Services

• Day Care

• Foster Care

• Employment Services

• Emergency Services

• Family Services

• Dial-A-Ride Volunteer Transportation for the Elderly

• Domestic Violence Counseling

The department welcomes volunteers to assist in providing transportation and other client service needs.

Services are restricted to residents of Powhatan County.  Eligibility for certain services is based on income.  All information received is confidential.
