     In 1980 the census showed that there were 12,367 people living in Powhatan County.  By 1997 this number had increased to 19,441.  The outlook for the year 2002 is that 22,843 people will be living in Powhatan County.
     The number of households has subsequently increased between 1990 to 1997.  It was reported that there were 4361 households in 1990 which increased to 6106 in 1997 and will presumably increase to 7407 by the year 2002.  There were approximately 5087 families living in Powhatan in 1997.
     The median age for someone living in Powhatan is 36.6 years old.  The largest population of people, approximately 37% are between the ages of 25 and 44 years old.
