Thomas P. Nolan
Director of Public Safety Communications
Thomas has been the Director of the newly created Department of Emergency Communications-911 for Powhatan County since October 2016. The 911 Center and Communications Officers are under the Sheriff’s Office until July 1, 2017, when they and the duties of the Center will come under Thomas’ direction.
Thomas was born in Niagara Falls, New York. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Minor in History from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1989 and his Masters in Public Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in August of 2004.
Thomas came to Powhatan with more than 28 years of public safety experience of which 6 years of experience in directing/managing the 911- Center for the City of Richmond Virginia.
Thomas will manage several projects, such as the replacement of the Public Safety Radio and CAD systems.
He has two children, a 22 year old daughter who resides with in Charlotte North Carolina and a 19 year old daughter who is attending James Madison University.
