taken from the guides is the average loan value as determined by
N.A.D.A. We also allow for excessive high mileage on your
vehicles. You are required to show proof of high mileage by
supplying our office with two years inspection receipts or any
other two receipts that show the mileage on your vehicle at the
given time.
Disabled veterans must submit
written documentation from the Department of Veteran's Affairs
showing that their disability is 100% and service-connected in
order to receive a reduced rate on one vehicle.
Assessments are done by the
Commissioner of the Revenue's office. The Treasurer's office
sends and collects the tax bills. The rate that is used to
calculate the taxes is set each year by the Powhatan County Board
of Supervisors. The deadline to pay personal property taxes
is December 5th.
Powhatan County does not prorate
personal property taxes as do some of the other localities.
Powhatan County taxes as of January 1st of each year.
Anything bought or sold after this date will not be considered
until the following year.
If there are any questions about
your tax bill, please contact the Commissioner of the Revenue's
office as soon as possible after receiving your bill.
The Treasurer's office will
accept partial payments on taxes during the year.
Outstanding balances owed after December 5th are subject to
