Levying local taxes is the job of the Powhatan County Board of Supervisors.  Making sure that you are assessed fairly and billed accurately is the job of the office of the Commissioner of Revenue.  Our office is regulated by State Code Section 58.1.  Our office implements various tax ordinances that are adopted by the Board of Supervisors as well as certain state tax ordinances.

Jamie Timberlake graduated from Virginia Tech and has worked for the county since 1997.  He was elected Commissioner of Revenue in 2007 and is currently working on a Master Designation.  Along with his staff of 6 full-time employees and 1 part-time high school student, together they total over 83 years experience in this office.  The office assesses real estate, personal property, and business personal property; issues business licenses; processes State income tax returns; accepts and processes applications for Relief for the Elderly and Handicapped and the Land Use Valuation Program; and assists taxpayers with their questions regarding any of the above.

A tax calendar is provided below as well as links to each type of county tax assessed in our office.  Feel free to contact our office with any questions you may have.  Customer service is our #1 priority.
