| Mr. Maxey is the
Clerk of the Circuit Court in Powhatan County. He is a
constitutional official and is elected to an eight-year term by the
voters of Powhatan County. Mr. Maxey handles administrative
matters for the court and also has authority to probate wills, grant
administration of estates, and appoint guardians. In addition, he
is the custodian of the court records and the Clerk's Office is where
deeds are recorded and marriage licenses issued. In his capacity
as Clerk, he gives the oath of office to elected and appointed
officials, aids those engaged in historical and genealogical research,
and collects overdue traffic fines.
Mr. Maxey has been serving the residents of Powhatan County as Clerk of the Circuit Court since July 1, 1957.
