As the Powhatan Chamber of
Commerce works toward making a difference in the economic climate and
quality of life in Powhatan, it continues to grow in number and
importance in the Powhatan community.
One of the primary objectives of
the Chamber is to create an awareness that when residents spend their
money for goods and services within the county, not only do local
merchants benefit, the county benefits from the sales tax revenues
generated. To promote this effort, several years ago the Chamber
launched the "Give Powhatan the Business" campaign to
encourage county residents to keep their sales dollars at home.
Memberships continue to exceed 200. Our office, located in the Richardson-Harris-Boatwright Building,
is going strong, helping to enhance the Chamber’s presence in the
community. We continue to provide the most accurate map of
the County as well as a Membership Directory and Consumer Guide.
Additionally, we provide members-only customer referrals, networking
opportunities, newcomer and visitor services, and have maintained our
stand against the Business, Professional, Occupational License (BPOL)
tax. Also, we provide a quarterly newsletter, hold monthly luncheons
which feature excellent speakers, and answer questions pertaining to
tourism, relocation, and economic development.
Membership luncheon meetings are held
the third Thursday of each month at the County Seat Restaurant (3883
Old Buckingham Road). We attract more than 50 attendees and
provide excellent networking opportunities. There is a guest
speaker at each luncheon as well as the Annual Dinner in January.
The very popular Powhatan's Festival of
the Grape continues to be the Chamber's primary fundraiser. It
will take place again for the fifth consecutive year on Saturday,
October 27th from 11 am to 6 pm in the Courthouse Square.

Benefits:
Full-time representation and year-round results are rewards of
belonging to the Powhatan Chamber of Commerce. Businesses
sometimes fail to recognize the fact that their local Chamber is also
their salesman and advocate. The Chamber unceasingly promotes
local products and services while at the same time protecting business
interests. A single voice can go unheard, but the collective voice
of the Chamber is effective in helping to make Powhatan a wonderful
place to work and live.
