Position Details

  • Compensation: Hiring Range: $90,000-$105,000, based on qualifications and experience.
  • Hours: Full-Time

Powhatan County seeks a highly motivated, creative, and qualified candidate to lead the County’s Information Technology team of 2.5 FTEs, by providing enterprise technology leadership, vision, focus and alignment with the County’s business activities, building partnerships for leveraging technology resources, and developing strategies to advance the County’s goals.  Responsibilities include developing operating and capital budgets, implementing policies best practices, and managing projects such as ERP conversion, security enhancements, server virtualization, desktop refresh, GIS, Computer Aided Dispatch replacement, network resiliency, and IT governance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Minimum Qualifications):

Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of information systems and technology and their application in the services of local government, including unified communications.  Environment includes three core work sites connected with Cisco routers and switches and additional remote sites with various connections, Windows Active Directory, Microsoft SQL, CAD (Spillman), VMWare virtualization system, ESRI GIS, Cradlepoint VPN, Cisco ASA firewall, IBM iSeries, Barracuda Web, Spam, and Backup appliances.  Ability to work on multiple project topics simultaneously. 


Bachelor’s degree in a related field; with at least 8 years of progressively responsible information technology experience.  Supervisory and/or management experience is preferred; experience in the public sector, preferably local government; relevant technology certifications are desired; or, the equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
