Powhatan County is seeking a Building/Erosion & Sediment Inspector to perform inspections on all phases of construction including residential and commercial electrical, mechanical, plumbing, building and property maintenance inspections.  This position also performs erosion and sediment control inspections on single-family residential development.  Reads and interprets building plans and specifications for compliance during inspections; issues correction of notices, reviews assigned inspection tickets, performs daily inspections; provides customer service, maintains effective working relationships with citizens, contractors and staff, and performs other duties as required.

The position requires a valid Virginia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, and any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma, in addition to at least two years’ experience in building construction or inspections. Must be able to obtain E&S Inspector certification from the State Department of Environmental Quality and Combination Residential Inspector certification from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development within one year, and Combined Commercial Inspector certification within three years of date of hire.
